Column (Hydrocarbon or Pay)
Use the Column form (model > Maps & Reports) to create a cumulative 2D Hydrocarbon Column or Pay Column grid map. The calculation uses either the hydrocarbon saturation or the water saturation data.
The Column Map operation calculates a property value with the Property Type: Volume per Area, which may equal thickness (e.g. m3 / m2), but allows for a much wider variety of units. To change the units, select the property in JewelExplorer and then in the Inspector, click the General > Unit field.
To create a 2D Column Map:
- Select a grid the property is mapped to.
- On the Zone Selection tab, select the Zones, and appropriate Subzones.
- On the Properties tab, select the properties that are required to calculate the column map.
- To execute the mapping process and close the form, click OK. If not already created, a map item named after the zone you specified in step 2 is created in the Data > Maps folder. Inside this map item you will find the properties that were created, and can visualize them in the 3D View and the CoView.
A column map with a 2D grid object is created in the JewelExplorer in the Data folder.
Zones Select the zone level. This defines the content of the Subzones list.
Select Subzones Select the zone level. This defines the content of the Subzones list.
Combine selected zones in the map If you selected subzones, then select this option to make one map and combine the data of all selected zones. Otherwise, separate maps are generated for each subzone.
Hydorcarbon Column Map When selected, no threshold values are applied for Ntg, porosity or hydrocarbon or water saturation. The entire model is taken into account. An Equivalent Oil Column Map is calculated. The 2D map sums the values of the Equivalent hydrocarbon column of all cells per grid stack. The Equivalent hydrocarbon column per cell is calculated as cell thickness x ntg x porosity x saturation.
Pay map When selected, you can set a number of threshold values to specify the pay characteristics of the model. Grid cells whose Ntg or porosity or saturation value is lower than the threshold are not taken into account. The pay map gives the cumulative thickness per grid stack of the cells whose Ntg and porosity and saturation values lie above the thresholds.
Ntg Select an Ntg property or apply an Ntg ratio of 1. In the former case a net hydrocarbon column map is created.
Threshold value If you select a Pay Map, you must specify the threshold values to apply for pay calculations. Cells whose values lie below a threshold value are not taken into account. If you select a Hydrocarbon Column Map the threshold options are disabled and no threshold values are taken into account.
Porosity Select a porosity property or use the value 0.3.
Use Hydrocarbon saturation Select to base your calculations on hydrocarbon saturation data. Select the required Oil Saturation or Gas Saturation property.
Use Water Saturation Select to base your calculations on water saturation data. Select the required Water Saturation property.
